DAAD PhD Scholarship in Germany 2018-19

Scholarship: Applications are open for Rwandan PhD Scholarship sponsored jointly by DAAD and the Government of Rwanda. The applications are open until January 31, 2018.The general aim of the programme is to train young arcade The German Academic Exchange Service or DAAD (German: Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) is the largest German support organisation in the field of international academic co-operation mics and scientists through funding of PhD degree studies in Germany.

Host College/University: The German Academic Exchange Service or DAAD is the largest German support organisation in the field of international academic co-operation.

Degree level/ Field of Study: The scholarship is awarded in the fields offered by the university. 

Course Level: The scholarship is available to pursue PhD programme.

Scholarship Award: The scholarship will cover the followings:

  1. 6 months preparatory German language course (full time) including accommodation and pocket Money.
  2. co-financed monthly scholarship installment.
  3. Reimbursement of travel costs through an adequate travel lump sum that is disbursed after arrival in Germany, during the funding period respectively.
  4. study and research allowance.
  5. Accident, health and personal liability insurance cover.
  6. further individual allowances upon application.
  7. Scholarship can be taken in Germany.

Nationality: Rwandan.

Eligibility Criteria:

Entrance Requirements: The last qualifying degree should have been obtained not more than six years ago. Candidates should have passed their Bachelor studies with at least “second class upper division”, their Master’s studies with at least B+ (or equivalent.

English Language Requirements: Applicants must be fluent in English.

Applying procedure Instructions: 

  • The mode of applying is online.

  • List of publications, if any.
  • proposal (10 – 15 pages; 1,5 spacing; 2,5cm space left, 2cm right).
  • Abstract of the proposal on one page (please include name and title of the proposal).
  • Detailed work plan for 3 years including time schedule covering the whole period of the scholarship.
  • Confirmation from a German Professor stating that he/she will supervise the applicant for his/ her Ph.D. thesis (in English).
  • OR Admission/Eligibility letter from structured PhD Programme.
  • Certificates.
  • Master’s certificate.
  • Transcripts for each Year.
  • Bachelor’s certificate.
  • Transcripts for each Year.
  • A/O-level certificate.
  • Confirmation of funding for research during field studies.
  • To be sent to the DAAD office in Nairobi.
  • 2 original references of academic referees (in English; on recommendation forms, available on the online portal).
  • The document “Application summary”.
